Welcome to la pruina
Ancient vineyards rich of history
The oldest vineyards are about 40-50 years old. The traditional bush called Alberello is planted in these vineyards. These bushes produce a low yield of grapes per hectacre, but produce grapes that are full of concentration. The leaves from the bush form an "umbrella" that protect the berries from direct contact with the sun. These vineyards account for about 20 hectacres. The vines are managed organically and are hand harvested.
During the production of grapes we use the traditional model to produce wine that is of high quality and elegance in the glass. The climate is typically Mediterranean with long and hot summers, pleasant springs and mild winters. Indigenous grape varieties like Primitivo, Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera and Fiano are grown in red soils rich in iron oxides, full of limestone and fossils deriving from the crumbling of the underlying rock. This type of soil makes things difficult for the vines, whose roots are forced to struggle to dig deep in search of water and nourishment. But it is exactly this difficult and harsh condition, together with the very hot summer days, that gives the grapes unique concentration, full of sugar and color that results in opulent wines.
